NEET PG Counselling 2024: NBEMS Allegedly Cancels Two DNB Seats Amidst Ongoing Process

In a surprising turn of events, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has reportedly withdrawn two DNB seats allocated during the ongoing NEET PG 2024 counselling. These seats, falling under the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) facilitated by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), were from the General Surgery Super Speciality branch.

The cancellation has been attributed to unforeseen circumstances at Ruby General Hospital, Kolkata, West Bengal, where the seats were allocated. According to reports, the faculty’s unexpected resignation led to this decision. Candidates affected by the change received an email from NBEMS on January 13, 2025, informing them of the seat withdrawal.

The email stated:
“Candidature for the allotted seat has been cancelled as the said seat no longer exists. This information has already been communicated to MCC, which has been requested to facilitate your participation in the third round of the counselling.”

While NBEMS has assured affected candidates of an opportunity to secure a seat in the third round, there has been no official public notice or clarification on the matter.

Candidates impacted by the cancellation will need to reappear in the subsequent counselling rounds. This unforeseen situation has raised concerns about the stability of the counselling process and the transparency of NBEMS decisions.

Ongoing Controversy: NEET PG Result Transparency

The NEET PG 2024 process has been marred by allegations of opacity in result handling. This led to a legal case, with the Supreme Court postponing its hearing to January 21, 2025.

  • Why was there no prior notification regarding the cancellation of seats?
  • How will this impact candidates’ confidence in the NEET PG counselling process?
  • What measures are being taken to prevent such incidents in the future?

As the NEET PG 2024 counselling continues, candidates and stakeholders are hoping for greater transparency and stability in the process. It remains to be seen how NBEMS and MCC address these pressing concerns.
